Privacy policy

TypersPad is a text editor made by Williation Technologies Ltd ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it. In short: your text stays on your computer and, if you choose, in your own Google Drive. We never receive it.

What stays on your computer
Your documents, unsaved tabs (kept every few seconds so nothing is lost), settings, words you add to the dictionary and downloaded dictionaries are stored only on your computer, in a folder that only your user account can read.
Google Drive sync (optional)
- If you connect Google Drive, TypersPad copies your open tabs, and optionally your saved files, to a TypersPad folder in your own Google Drive, so they appear on your other computers.
- Your data goes directly from your computer to Google. It does not pass through our servers, and we cannot see it. Google's privacy policy applies to data stored in your Drive.
- TypersPad asks only for Google's
drive.filepermission: it can see and change only the files it created itself, never anything else in your Drive. It also reads your Google account's email address, only to show you which account is connected. - Your Google sign-in is stored only on your computer: encrypted for your Windows user account, or in your macOS Keychain. Disconnecting revokes it.
- TypersPad's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use it for advertising, sell it, or transfer it to anyone.
Spelling dictionaries
When you choose a spell-check language, its dictionary is downloaded once from the jsDelivr content network. Like any website, jsDelivr sees your computer's internet address for that download. Nothing else is sent.
What we don't do
TypersPad contains no tracking, analytics, advertising or crash reporting. It does not need an account with us.
This website
Analytics cookies, only if you agree. If you click “Accept” in the cookie message, typerspad.com loads Google Analytics, which sets cookies (named _ga) to count visits and show which pages are used. Google receives your IP address, browser details and the pages you view, and processes them under Google’s privacy policy; data may be transferred outside the UK. The legal basis is your consent. If you click “Decline”, or don’t choose, no analytics cookies are set; Google then receives only basic signals that a page was viewed (with your IP address and browser details), which cannot recognise you on a later visit. We don’t use Google Analytics for advertising. You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page; declining removes the analytics cookies. Your choice is remembered in your browser’s local storage.
Cookieless visit statistics. We also use Ahrefs Web Analytics to count visits, see which pages are read and which sites link to us. It sets no cookies and doesn’t recognise you on later visits. Ahrefs receives your IP address and browser details to count the visit and work out your country, on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
We also keep limited records for two purposes, on the basis of our legitimate interests in running and protecting the site:
- Downloads. When you download TypersPad we record the date and time, which version, your IP address, the country it belongs to, your browser and operating system (from the user-agent), the page that linked to the download and your browser language. We use this to count downloads, understand where they come from and spot abuse.
- Protection against spam and attacks. We check each visitor's IP address against well-known public blocklists (Spamhaus, Stop Forum Spam, blocklist.de and Emerging Threats) and our own list of blocked addresses. If access is refused, we record the IP address, time, page and user-agent.
We work out the country from the IP address with a database stored on our own server (IP geolocation by DB-IP); IP addresses are not sent to anyone for this. These records are kept for 12 months and then deleted automatically. Our web host may also keep standard server logs for a short period for security.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the download or access records linked to your IP address, or ask us to delete them. Because we don't receive your documents, you control those directly: delete them in TypersPad or in your Google Drive, and disconnect Google in Cloud › Settings.
